HOW TO READ THE WEEK A scheduled release is when dealer positioning gets tested. The event supplies the shock; the gamma regime decides what the market does with it.
With dealers long gamma, hedging damps the approach — the tape compresses into the print and resolves after it, not before. With dealers short gamma there is no brake, so the first push extends instead of being absorbed. Same headline, same surprise, two different sessions.
Expiry shifts it again: gamma concentration decays as contracts roll off, so an event landing into a heavy chain is absorbed by a very different book than the same event a week after. And charm — the re-hedge forced by time alone — builds into every expiry regardless of what is on the schedule.
